Chapter: Comic
If you ever lend money to a friend, do it with the thought that it’s a gift. If someday they manage to pay you back, hooray. Otherwise if you hold it over their head or if you harbor a grudge, your friendship is doomed.

I’ve done that for a while. IF I can spare it, it’s a gift. IF it ever comes back, great.
The hard part is making that clear up front when they ask (not often).
If the wheels turn just right, one day all the unpaid debts will come back all at once, and it’d be like winning the lottery.
Also, it’s a good idea to know who not to lend to. There are three relatives I can think of right off I’ll never lend to. Unless I don’t want to see them again for a looooong time.
Loans to friends are gifts, but I don’t tell them that.
If the friend repays it, it’s there for me to give to someone else when the other person needs it.
Fun fact: Lemmy from Motorhead got his name because he was perpetually broke and was always saying to people, “Lend me a fiver.”
Loans to friends are gifts.
Loans to family members are leverage.
