#514 – Toasted

I sometimes panic when I’m sleeping in a hotel or relatives house. I’ll wake up in the middle of the night from being too hot and need to adjust my blanket coverage. That’s when I’ll discover the sheet is tucked in to the mattress and my feet are trapped.

I get like that when I go visit my brother in Kansas. If it isn’t getting the right warmth (always tricky anyway seeing as the human body will lower it’s temp during sleep), it’s not being able to sit up because my niece and/or her cat is sitting on my torso, waiting for me to wake up and play.

Weird – for me the feet are that one body part that needs to be covered with a blanket at any time, no matter what… at the same time I could not imagine wearing socks to sleep… that would be weird for me.

Then again, I am not so normal: I sleep with open windows all year and naked, even when it’s -20°C outside.

  3. HOW CAN YOU SLEEP WITH YOUR FEET STICKING OUT THE MONSTERS WILL GET YOU

THEY WILL! Seriously though, I always have my feet covered, and it IS genuinely because I start falling asleep and wonder about things grabbing my feet…:(

    Hate those tucked in sheets…

In contrast, my girlfriend hates when I completely wreck perfect “tuck-ins” every time I get in bed.

I’m with FR. Even in the middle of summer, I just can’t sleep if my feet aren’t covered.
And yes, my fiance is the opposite and untucks the sheets. *fistshake*

Count me in the “feet must be covered” camp. If the night is just a little cool, I will sleep uncovered except for my feet.

I require three pillows, one light blanket, and a sheet. The room must be cold, preferably from a running overhead fan. Feet must be bare, but covered by the tucked in blanket. Arms shall remain uncovered. Lay on right side.

All that is required for me to even have a hope of falling asleep. Insomnia usually sabotages my efforts.

The first thing I do whenever I get into a hotel bed is untuck the sheets around the bottom of the bed, so that I can flex my ankles. I keep my feet covered, but I can’t be comfortable if my legs are trapped like that.

This is a test to see if my Gravatar works…
Also, nice work as usual Chris.
I don’t care to wear socks to sleep, unless I fall asleep with them on (read – fall asleep in drunkeness).

When I was a kid, I was given nightmares by a weird movie that involved these worm things that would drill their way through your body, eventually killing you. In one scene, a king was assassinated by having these worms injected while he slept with bare feet. To this day, I cannot sleep with my feet uncovered.

On a side note, if anyone has any idea what movie this might have been, I would be interested in seeing it again to laugh at my former self being afraid of it…

Pro tip for sleeping finikiness: enlist and do basic training. After that you WILL be able to sleep anywhere during anything. 😉
