#364 – Triptych

We cam home from vacation awhile back and found evidence of a mouse in our kitchen. Used up a lot of bleach that night. My main problem is that I enjoy fresh cracked black pepper. I have mouse flashbacks every time I crack some over my food.

Never liked pepper much. Now I have another reason to dislike it.

As a long-time pest-dealer-with-er for my Ma, let me offer some advice.

A properly-baited snap trap will insure the end of a problem, but you have to use the right bait. I use fruit slice candy, or anything with a firm, gumdrop-like consistancy. It keeps the mouse in place to insure a clean hit. The newer plastic clip snaps, where you don’t even have to touch the mouse to empty them, are good too. If you use any type of live box trap, empty them far, far away from home. Mice have very excellent homing instincts, unless the neighborhood cats know you, and wait for you to emerge with a box of live munchies to chase.

Way down on my list is poison (real nasty business for the victims) and glue traps (yikes! don’t get me started).

A boy walks across a fly on a table and says “Hey, A fly! I think I’ll pull off its wings”, and does.
Later another boy stumbles across the same fly and says “Hey, a fly without wings! I think I’ll take off its legs”, and does.
Later, another boy stumbles across the same fly and says “Hey! A raisin!”, and eats it.

One of my favorite Steven Wright imponderables: “If you pull the wings off of a fly, does it become a ‘walk’?”

Wasn’t it Richard Pryor, who said about Christmas goodies, “Hey! My almonds’ got legs!”
