#316 – Plaque

It must be a stressful thing to eat at a restaurant when you have a deadly food allergy. I have problems with gluten and dairy and avoid eating out because of it. Seems like there’s too many people handling my food at a restaurant to trust them with my life. They probably feel the same way.

I know what is that… i´m extremely allergic to shrimp, and even if a meal is shrimp-less i get reactions if a pan or other kitchen utensil was used in another meal with shrimp in the preparation before my meal… i´m extremely unconfortable eating anywhere where they have shrimp recipes in the menu…

My problems with onions being in almost everything keeps me cooking. Saves money too.

Hah! Try being on the other end of this! I’m a professional cook, and I currently work in banquets and conventions. The major difference between a restaurant kitchen and a banquet/convention kitchen is the restaurant kitchen has everything on hand, all the time (because it has a standard menu that is the same every day), while the b/c kitchen orders in the specific things we need to cook the meals for a specific event (because we don’t have a standard “every day” menu). And that menu is often chosen weeks or months before the event, and the food order is delivered a day or two beforehand. So imagine the fun when somebody waits until the meal is actually being served to inform us that “I need a vegan, kosher, gluten-free meal with no nuts or dairy. And I’m allergic to mushrooms, too.” Umm… would it have been so hard to notify us of this in advance so that we could actually order something in to accommodate you?

So, it’s a stalk of celery in a mug of hot water, then?
