#295 – Prized

I hated the cereal prizes that were part of a series. “Collect all 8!” I didn’t eat cereal fast enough to ever get them all. I would only get 4 of the “speed demons” and 3 of them would be that dang boat. I want the motorcycle! Then I would spend a half hour the next few times we went grocery shopping looking through all the boxes to try and find an old one that slipped through the cracks and still had the old promotion running.

Today’s Biff is down.

That kid just found the rarest piece in the whole set.

Or worse, collecting the whole set meant getting dupilcates, and the only difference being the sticker sheet. That said, I miss some of the old prizes. The fuzzy stickers that changed color when the weather changed (Lucky Charms), those little wheels you launched with a plastic tab (Moonstones), the mustard seed terrarium (Sugar Crisp), the very simple transforming vehicles (Cap’n Crunch), and the baking soda submarine (many cereals had it at least once). Someone ought to make a set of the prizes of the past and sell them packed in a small cereal box.

I think you can get the prizes in EBAY or something.
I still eat cereal, but haven’t seen too many prizes included anymore.
BTW, I wonder what will happen to the kid that finds the nuclear engines? …. I can just imagine certain rogue countries shipping its nuclear engines through cereal boxes lol

And that does not include the documentation. As we say in aerospace, when the paperwork weighs as much as the vehicle, it is ready to launch!

*Looks at Bonkers Burger King toys* I have all 5 of them, opened of course, but it did take some time to get them all.

There was a fad when I was a kid of the “Collect 4 proofs of purchase and send them in to get a ____!” That was a lot of effort for a 9 year old and I only did it once. I can’t remember what I sent in for, but I distinctly remember being disappointed. This was the reason the Calvin and Hobbes “Propellor Beanie” strips were my favorite.

  7. 3 words… “batteries not included!” 🙁

The other day I was picking up some Cheerios and decided to get the ones with a random Star Wars pen and my wife though I was crazy hoping for an R2D2. She was right. I was crazy.

    #%$ jar jar.

You didn’t get teh 3 boxes that when put together they formed a Star Wars Panoramic?

  9. Mel says:

I remember for a while DVDs were included in cereal boxes of actual movies. I don’t know if they do that anymore, haven’t seen it in years

I picked up one of these prize cereal boxes recently. It used to be the prize was at the bottom of the cereal. now you just have to lift out the little plastic bag and dump it out of the bottom of the box. I dumped out a little card that said something along the lines of ‘write your address on this card, turn it in and you’ll get your prize!” what the heck happened to ‘decoder rings’ and cool stickers and little toys that actually did stuff besides fall apart? I got kind of sad when i realized there was going to be no more of that ‘maybe this one will have TWO prizes!” thrill anymore for young kids. “Maybe this one will have TWO mail in rebates!” doesn’t have the same kick to it…

5 years ago Super Noodle Bran gave the whole ship at once (http://www.thebookofbiff.com/2007/05/10/243-bran/), they must have been hit pretty hard by the recession.

Now cereal boxes are more like commercials. We’ve got a box of fruity pepples advertising ‘wrestle mania’.
