#274 – Zoom

I’ve worn glasses since 2nd grade. I was one of the first kids that my classmates knew that wore them. They liked to try on my glasses and were always shocked at what they saw. Little kids didn’t really understand how glasses worked.

“This is what everything looks like to you?! How can you even walk around?!”

They also figured that when my glasses were off I was “blind”, meaning that everything literally turned to black.

Today’s Biff is a creep.

My brother tried on my glasses and remarked that he could unlock the window from where he was standing.. in the doorway.. On the other side of the room. 😐

I’ve had glasses since I was 3, so I’ve had that experience as well. The funny thing is, that even now as an adult, I still get that “how can you see?!?” question from other adults who try on my glasses.

I’ve worn them since I was 9, 4th grade. Until then I thought everybody saw things the same way I did – fuzzy around the edges.

I know those kind of obsevations all too well. How about when someone says, “You look a lot better without your glasses!” I was already a young adult before I heard a comedian say “You look a lot better without my glasses too!” I could have really used that as a kid.

Kids are the meanest people… :'(

When I take my glasses off, the faces of people around me changes. Their heads get fuzzy, washed out, and take on an upside down pear shaped look. Their eyes turn into dark, black almond shaped hollows. If I ever do run into real aliens, I’ll probably knock myself out trying to put on my glasses that I’m already wearing.

I was actually excited to get glasses when I was a kid. Not so much for being able to see more clearly (when you’re used to everything being kinda blurry, you can’t imagine what it would be like to be able to see better and are so used to compensating that it doesn’t seem like a big deal), but because I wanted to look smarter. As a natural blonde, I got made fun of for being a “dumb blonde” all the time, despite being a rather clever kid. I figured glasses would make me look less like a stupid Barbie doll — and being made fun of for being smart always bothered me a lot less than being made fun of for being dumb.

I got glasses when I was six. my vision continues to decline- my current ‘things are actually clear’ distance is 4 inches away from my face, and I actually have to make an optometrist appt tomorrow.

I can’t wait till I can get lasik.

I tried looking through my older brother’s glasses before I got my own. “Hey, everything looks smaller through these things. Why would you want to see the world smaller?”
