Chapter: Comic
When I was a kid we used to have a contest to see who could fling their shoe the farthest off the swings. You had to launch it at just the right moment to match the arc that your swing made. We got pretty good at it, unfortunately the swing set faced the road…

We never flung our shoes; we just jumped off at the top of the arc…
Imagine my disappointment when I found out you merely meant a shoe.
Grew up on the West Side of Chicago (K-Town) where we had these OLD, all hard metal and wood swings. The dare was to jump off as high as possible. I don’t remember how high those old swings were, but I jumped off once, hit the ground, and the next thing I knew, someone was shaking me, saying “Mike! Mike! Do you know how high you were? Are you o.k.?”
Did you go look for your shoes before you went home?
Wonder how many accidents you caused?
Swing sets were disappointing after a while. No matter how hard we tried, we couldn’t get the swings to do a full revolution.
Oh well, we had fun flinging ourselves off the swings. If you did it wrong, you could twist an ankle or slam into the ground or get dragged to your bloody doom.
I miss swing sets.
Destructive shoe flinging? Cue /gif/
We used to aim ours so that they’d land close to (but not actually hit) joggers on the bike path. The swingset was hidden from the path by a cedar hedge, so shoes falling out of the sky would come as a total shock and freak people out.
Of course, our aim wasn’t very good …
I’m either too young or too nerdy to have ever experienced that.
To experience swings?
