I did deliver letters for while, and as far as I know, it’s required to drop off in person or at least in a secure place- which a doorstep is not.
Okay, I’ve more than once pushed a letter below the door since nobody would open and the boxes were inside, but whatever.
I avoid UPS like the plague due to really bad experiences (like one delivery where they left notice for almost a week without ever actually coming to my door and tried to claim I wasn’t home the entire time). I even got Amazon Prime thinking that all such deliveries would be on their USPS contract. Nope, some are, but apparently Lasership and UPS still do some of them. Sigh.

I’m waiting for the day when package tracking will go so far as to be able to list deliveries as “Stolen”
