They only thing I played with from my dad’s childhood was a baseball and glove. My son is interested in every single major toyline I played with as a kid. It’s something I never expected to happen but it’s a lot of fun getting to relive all my childhood stories with him.
My son has been getting more into LEGO since seeing the movie and now my wife is getting interested as well. We were browsing the Lord of the Rings theme and came across this set. The front is a tall black tower and the back is cut away to give you access to the different rooms on the different floors. After scrolling through a few pictures my wife said “Wait a minute… how is this not just dollhouses for boys?”
“Okay maybe just this one little… ooh these are on sale though. Oh! Limited edition! Hey, do me a favor and run back to the front of the store and get a cart while I guard these.”
When my first child was a baby we would get him educational toys. This one will be good for dexterity. This one will help learn counting. This one sings the alphabet. Now he’s getting interested in things I liked as a kid. He has a few Transformers that I think I have played with more than him.
I love when my son tries to use logic on me to get his way. He always thinks his plan is brilliant and he is the first to have thought of it. He keeps forgetting that I was once a boy as well.
I had a ceramic Garfield piggy bank when I was a kid. The kind with no hole on the bottom so you would have to eventually smash it to get the money out. This inspired me to save a lot of money until I realized if I put a butter knife in the slot and shook it upside down the coins would fall back out. Then it just became an inconvenient change bowl.
