  1. Miles says:

Baa Baa Black Sheep as well, though I think I was seven (and playing it on a play-back organ) when I finally figured that one out.

  2. bob says:

    I don’t get it.

    1. Slim Jim says:

Abc song, Baa baa black sheep, and Twinkle twinkle little star, share the same melody.

      1. maarvarq says:

Baa Baa Black Sheep is a slightly more complicated variation on Twinkle Twinkle Little Star – “have you any wool?” has notes of half the length which reach a third higher than “little star”, and “little boy” briefly moves down a step then up two, where the second “little star” just moves up one step.

      2. Oscar says:

That’s because if you already know one song you’ll also know the other, and w/ yousician you can teach your daughter more songs.

      3. Oscar Stern says:

Yes they do so that if you know one, you’ll know the rest of them.

  3. Mike says:

Bob: The two songs (and more) have exactly the same tune, and the adult in the comic never realized it until that moment.

  4. bubujin_2 says:

Oh, yeah, I’ve been there with my two boys about 15 years ago.

  5. el boogerino says:

I sing this same song to our kids. Our three-year-old hates it, but our new kid (born last month) doesn’t mind at all. Probably because she doesn’t know the words. And also is a baby.

Seeing the kid swaddled in the comic reminds me that I’d rather not be sitting in a cubicle right now. So thanks Chris. 🙁

  6. Trevel says:

Had a similar moment in reverse once, where I suddenly realized that the christmas carol “Away in a Manger” had two different tunes. I knew them both, by heart — but I had never realized that there were two of them.

  7. Coyoty says:

Have you noticed “What Chlild Is This” is “Greensleeves”?

  8. Other says:

What about “old macdonald”? Sounds pretty similar as well….

  9. huh? says:

It’s such a simple melody. I think it’s the only tune I can play on a piano while singing to my daughter at the same time.
In french we do have the ABC song and we have a completely different one called “Ah vous dirais-je maman” on the same melody. The lyrics don’t make any sense though.
