Also glad there is finally a tag for “come on chris what is wrong with you”. It’s long overdue, I think?
Are you sure you can’t add breasts or hair to characters so we can know for sure if you meant two males or not?
(or start the sentence with “Sue!” or “Joe! Now that….” ?? )
If I think gender is important to the joke I will work it into the dialog, otherwise it’s up to you.
In the case of this comic, I imagined they were both women.
I imagined they were both shoe trees.
Early on Chris used to draw females with the body rectangle widening at the bottom so it looked like a girl’s dress to indicate gender, but it didn’t take him long to give that idea up. I figured he thought it was pointless to the jokes.
I, on the other hand, am really happy with genderless comics, it’s really refreshing. And if you have to know the gender of the characters to enjoy the stories, it’s absolutely not the comics’ fault 🙂
Oh man. Im reading through late, (as my comment dates indicate) and am now hoping that future comics use such obvious give aways to screw with the readers. (of course thats more of a Randy Milholland thing, but still) Oh they have breasts they must be female… oh, nope, it’s a really fat dude. Oh their hair is long, oh its the messiah.
