Chapter: Comic
It’s funny thinking back to when I was a kid in the age before caller-id. I would actually pick up a ringing phone multiple times a day without knowing who it was. Madness! We lived like savages!

I had to get up and change the channel on the TV.. and there were only 4 to choose from!!
And you couldn’t move about your home, much less leave it, while talking on the phone.
Times were so much harder then.
And you had to walk to school through deep snow, uphill both ways.
Sorry, couldn’t resist 8^)
Actually, now that you mention it….

At least with a rotary phone there’s less chance of the cat butt dialing you.
I’ve always liked the kid in an old newspaper strip who picked up a ringing phone, and ordered a pizza. When he got a “Huh?” from the caller, he said, “You must have dialed a wrong number.” and hung up. “I like to keep people on their toes!” You can’t really do that these days.
Pretty sure that was Calvin & Hobbes.
Also, I did that once to a telemarketer.
Way older than that. Like the days of “Priscilla’s Pop” old.
Maybe another, older comic had a similar idea and (hopefully) different execution – I can’t compare since I don’t know which comic you were thinking about – but FWIW here’s what immediately jumped to my mind:
