#717 – Sound

It’s funny how you can be accustomed to the common sounds around you. When we moved to our new house suddenly everything was strange and unusual. “What was that?!” Now all those same sounds have disappeared and I don’t even notice they are there.

So very true… for a very long time, I lived maybe 50 yards from an oft used railroad track… a train would go by about once an hour until about 10pm, when they would start passing by every 20 minutes.

Moving to an apartment a few miles from the train tracks was disconcerting.

We used to live next to a peanut mill, and they had large metal storage barns that were great for amplifying the sound from nearby lightning strikes during storms, and passing freight trains. Years later, we moved to a different part of town, and the weird sounds in the neighborhood were really hard to get used to. Especially that dog down the block that wouldn’t just howl late at night, but sounded like he was trying to speak actual words.

I could use those. Every little noise wakes me up.
