Chapter: Comic
Back when I was a kid I hated mowing the lawn. There were so many fun things I could be doing instead. Now I look forward to it. It’s sort of a mini vacation. It’s meditative and relaxing instead of a hassle.

The best are those rotary push mowers. Y’know…the ones with no motor? I always found mowing with one of those a very zen, meditative experience. I almost miss it, being in an apartment. I don’t miss the snow shovelling, though. (~¿º, )
That’s what I mowed the lawn with when I was a kid. Hated it. Dad was too cheap to buy a power mower.
Someone gets a lot of haircuts.
What hair?
my (R)ECE/Kindergarten teacher/Masters of Child Studies sister always loves your comics (too)… always such a good representation and smack in the face to ridiculous notions about parenthood and equality and all that jazz!
Did your wife insist on this strip, Chris? Haha.
No, but she laughed!
I think the zone-out may partly be due to the usual noise of a mower creates a kind of sonic barrier, keeping outside sounds, like people talking, from getting to you. Then the consistant drone of the motor and the vibration to the upper arms, helps put one into the meditative state. Add to however you cut the grass, whatever personal pattern you automatically attack the lawn without thinking, you are zoned.
This reminds me of when I first moved in to my house…I got my uncle to come over with his chainsaw to cut a tree down, and one of the neighbours thought he was the new owner and decided to have a chat with him. While he was operating a chainsaw. Wearing earplugs. This particular neighbour hasn’t stopped by since (it’s been almost three years…)
I’ve lost count of how many times I feel the same way as I read the desctription. I really love it!
