My son is constantly amazed at his own strength. “Look daddy, I can lift this pillow! You can’t even lift it! I’m getting so strong!” Somehow the fact that I can lift him up while he’s holding the pillow doesn’t break this spell.

My son is still figuring out the differences between video games/movies/cartoons and reality. He’s seen some of the 1980′s Transformers cartoons and I’ve shown him a few clips from the live action movies. In his mind he’s seen some fun cartoons and video of real live Transformers.

I love when my son tries to use logic on me to get his way. He always thinks his plan is brilliant and he is the first to have thought of it. He keeps forgetting that I was once a boy as well.

It’s my job to take words and twist them around to change their meaning. I love how children just do this naturally as they learn the language. Part of my job is unlearning how to be an adult.

My son like all kinds of different construction toy. Lego, blocks, lincoln logs. The only issue is he is more interested in the destruction aspect than building. He has no sympathy for daddy’s time investment.

Costumes can make kids feel really powerful. I used to put on my older brother’s motorcycle helmet, his winter gloves and my winter boots to pretend I was an astronaut. I must have looked silly when I flew my spaceship (rode my bicycle) around the neighborhood. I thought I must have looked awesome.
Also, if you have an iPad I have a bunch of new books available in the iBookstore including a free copy of Maximumble #1!

Recently my 5-year-old was sent to his room but refused. I picked him up and sat him down on his bed but he still wasn’t having it. “I’m stronger than you daddy! I’ll just push past you!” This is when I realized that whenever we wrestle or play super heroes he always “beats” me. All of those experiences were going to his head. Consequently he was a bit shocked that he couldn’t push or flail past my single outstretched hand.

It’s funny to watch my kid be exposed to someone new and magically absorb a new behavior or phrase that he never had before. Sometimes he’ll say something and I’ll be shocked that he would speak to me that way but when I ask “What do those words mean?” the answer is always “I have no idea.”

I was always afraid of the monsters in my dreams. The ones under the bed or in the closet got a lot of hype but I never actually saw any of them. The ones in my dreams, however, showed up all the time.

I had a friend visiting from out of state lose his car keys. We tracked down a few possible locations with no luck. The final guess was a movie theater from a few nights prior. We looked through their box of stuff and they weren’t there either. A manager overheard the conversation and pointed out a secondary box of stuff off in a different location that amazingly had the keys. It was kind of amazing how many other sets of unclaimed keys were in there.
