Chapter: Comic
A few years ago I hurt my drawing hand. A cartoonist’s nightmare! In order to give it the rest it needed I started using my other hand for other tasks. It was awkward at first but I was happy that I eventually got the hang of it. My drawing hand is still very susceptible to reinjury so I still drive, brush my teeth and type with just my left.

For a second there, I thought this was going to be about needing help to wipe his butt…
Mmmmm…, sundae.
His arm isn’t really broken. He’s just a sicko who likes to trick people into making sundaes for him.
At least he can still take dumps in the river (before or during the religious festivals) and faithfully eat with his left hand!
(Those are sub-continent Asians, right?)
In many parts of the world the left hand is only used for cleaning oneself and you’d never do anything like eat or anything that requires touching others with that hand. It’s very rude.
Around here, we just wash our hands.

I’ve always thought being ambidexterous would be…

…Handy.
Best emoticon ever.
I totally feel your pain, I did something horrible but unknown to my right wrist and spent a month in a cast, then 6 weeks in PT. I had to do everything with my left hand…
i’m sure this is where shake weights become useful
I broke my right elbow 2 years ago. Tripped on a curb. Had to teach myself to be ambimoustrous.
I built a robotic hand to temporarily replace my right hand. It was joystick controlled with my left. It was difficult, but that was ok because I could switch to my undamaged right hand whenever I wanted to.
As a kid, I went through a period where I was breaking bones on a regular basis, including four broken arms over four years, and the break alternated sides each time. So I learned how to be ambidextrous. Turned out to be a useful skill to have.
My mom was born left-handed, but in school they strapped her arm down and made her learn to use her right, so now she’s ambidextrous.
I’m ambidextrous but I generally use my right hand for most precision tasks (writing, mouse, etc). My biggest problem with a broken hand would be typing slower and not being able to play most video games =[
Hurt your hand? That puts you and Rich Burlew in a Venn diagram of ‘Webcartoonists’ and ‘Damaged Drawing Hands’.
Add Randy Milholland (Something*Positive). Hand injuries seem to be a visual media artist thing. Certainly it’s something they will comment on (since it so obviously impacts their livelihood).
