  1. John says:

This happens at least four times a week in our house.

  2. boog says:

    “Face… No, wait, stomach! Stomach!”

    But it was too late.

  3. jared says:

my wife is the worst – i think there is something in her brain that convinces her she will be unhappy with anything but the most perfect food for that particular evening.

i’m the opposite: i know i’d be happy with pretty much anything, so given a list of options i tend to blindly point in the middle and say “that one will do”. instant gratification for my belly – or it would be if i didn’t have to wait for my wife to order too…

it’s cute though – makes me laugh everytime: “oh, um… but what if the eggplant is better? no… umm.. maybe i should get meat? oh, umm… i’m sorry am i taking too long? oh… umm… could you just come back in like 30 minutes?”

(hunny if you’re reading this, laugh. because you know it’s true!)

It’s not a shrug, he’s trying to get the invisible elephant off his back.

  5. The antagonism is to mask the fact that he would have responded similarly had the other guy asked first.

  6. xindaris says:

This is what any car trip to an unspecified place to go out to eat is like with my family. Except everyone is shrugging, so none of us is available to punch anyone in the face/stomach.

  7. pbarnrob says:

My wife is used to this; I’ve eaten in messhalls, so most things are OK, if not Wonderful. I’ll try to settle on something quickly, just to avoid the hassle, but if they have a real House Specialty, it’s likely worth a try.

  8. Freezie43110 says:

With our family, I always end up deciding where we go when we eat out. Not because I want to, but because nobody else ever makes a decision.

  9. Octothorpe says:

I do this occasionally, but when I do it, I don’t lift my arms up. I just scrunch my arms and shoulders closer and closer to my body/face.
