I wonder if knowing how to play an actual guitar makes you a better or worse air guitarist. Maybe your instinct to be accurate would hurt the performance? You may be more likely to be distracted when you hit the wrong chord.

Knowing actual guitar definitely makes you worse at air guitar. Wish I had my air guitar air signed by Eric Clapton.
See the empty stand in the corner? It was for that one guitar I’ve lent to the Air Guitar World Championships. They returned it broken. Oh, well. :-

Nah; you would _never_ hit a wrong chord (and if you did, you needed to learn to fake it and go on anyway!)
