My Ma, having all four of us kids early on the the marriage and at one point were all under five years old, used to make meatloaf patties. It was a good way to serve it up quick, and w thought it was just her own idea. Later, she told me that she got the idea from a magazine, either Good Housekeeping, or Reader’s Digest. You just do your standard meatloaf mix, but reduce the amount of liquid, so the texture is more like a regular hamurger patty. Then just fry them up, and slap ’em on the bread of your choice, with whatever comdiments you want. Them’s good eatin’!
I had the opposite problem more often. I would assume that everything my family made was perfectly normal, and then when I grew up I realized that my family ate weird things that probably started as “lets make supper out of whatever happens to be in the house” And turned into “That actually tastes good, lets write that down and keep making it”
…..Really really awkward?
Tuna fish bake, until I realised it was also called fish pie, and I found it did actually exist outside my house.
