#611 – Tuesday

Chapter: Comic
It’s my job to take words and twist them around to change their meaning. I love how children just do this naturally as they learn the language. Part of my job is unlearning how to be an adult.

“One day, I will take you to Disneyland.”
“One day? That’s Monday!”
“You’re right. It was yesterday. I guess you missed it.”
I also love how Thursday is a corruption of Thor’s Day which sounds like Fours Day, and Friday/Fives Day are similar too!
As such, in my webcomics, the days of the five-day week are Onesday, Twosday, Threesday, Foursday, and Fivesday. (Fivesday is the weekend.)
Did your little boy inspire this one then, Chris?
I drove my parents absolutely nuts with my fondness for twisting words and playing with puns.
It hasn’t let up in adulthood. When I can get away with it, anyways. XD
French-speaker and generally bilingual, not a lot of things confuse me about English, but I do usually have to take a few seconds whenever I encounter Tuesday or Thursday to figure out which comes first — usually by muttering the whole week under my breath.
I think I need to thank you for changing that today.
Haha cool. 🙂
Ah, a favorite quote from Walt Kelly’s Pogo:
…
“But I thought Tuesday was the third day of the week.”
“No, you’re thinkin of Third’s Day. Comes right afore Friday. Don’t worry, tho, t’aint no disgrace to be stupid.”
Unless you have a small playfull dog, then everyday is Toes-day!
No new comix since Tuesday morning. Is everything okay, Chris? You doing all right? A loyal reader worries …
I was a little wet for a few days. Soggy
Awwww!
i have fun doing that in chinese. one pronunciation of a word could have different meanings depending on the context.
Mind. Blown.
