Chapter: Comic
I read Lord of the Flies in High School. I remember being shocked at how violent it was. Not that I hadn’t been exposed to hundreds of violent movies and TV shows at that point it had just never been a part of school before. On top of that all the characters were the same age as me or younger. It now sticks out in my mind as the first “adult” book I ever read.

I really did not like that book. My husband did, though. Actually, my current theory is that girls all hate it and guys all love it. There is no middle ground. This theory is supported by my mom, sister, mother-in-law, husband, father, father-in-law, and brother-in-law, plus many other random people with whom I’ve already had this conversation.
Totally agree! Went to an all-girl high school everybody hated. Everybody’s boyfriend and brother loved it. I hated the movie too.
My wife liked it.
I liked it. I’m a girl.
I’ve never read the book. Saw part of the movie, though.
THE MAGIC CONCH!!!
As someone who was reading adult books long before I was assigned Lord of the Flies, I absolutely hated it. Not for the violence, I just felt it was very boring compared to the stuff I usually read. I like violence.
We watched the movie too. That was a big meh.
If it’s this bad with the crabs, imagine what it must be like with the sponges, the starfish, or *gasp* the squirrells! The squids are too dull to worry about.
I’m male, and didn’t care a whole lot for the book. The plot seemed heavy-handed and forced.
How would you have written it?
I AMM THE CONCH!!!
I read Lord of the Flies in probably 3rd grade. I was more bothered that they were all running around nekkid than I was by the killing and whatnot. Even from a young age, I have always appreciated pants.
This reminds me of Red vs Blue episode 39 from Season 3. “Everyone, everyone look unto me. I possess the blue flag.” I have seen the top of the mountain, and you will worship me as though I were a God.”
