#132 – Chore

It’s kind of weird when you have had friends that you don’t remember. When you are 2 or 3 years old a lot of your friends are just kids of your parent’s friends. Then you get older and go to school and never see them again. All that is left are these fuzzy memories and a few mysterious photos of you with some other kid apparently having a great time.

Today’s Biff is in the stands.

You really nailed this one, new favourite.

Oooh my Dad would say something along these lines once in a while when we were kids and didn’t do as we were told.

Or if we banged the door or hit something, he’d make us apologize to the item until he was satisfied.

      Weird but inventive.

When you come from a large enough family, it becomes a pertinent question.

For the last two weeks we’ve been trying to identify everyone in a family photograph from April 1980. There’s around 20 people in it, and whilst most people have aged considerably (or even died), two of my cousins look remarkably the same.

      Awesome, ha ha.

I am the keeper of the family memories for the baby boomers and after. So I’ve heard all the stories of those before. I have pictures from 1909 and 1919. The 1919 has my great-grandmother and her sister in it. Then there’s a circa 1940s picture that NO ONE can decided if it’s great-granny or her sister. My grandparents were dead by the time I got the photo. My mother first thought it was the sister, then later said it was the aunt. None of her brothers can remember which one it is. Great-granny died before I was born and the sister I only saw twice before she dided when I about 11. You can tell she’s one of US she looks just like a this generation cousin.
The only stupid thing, no one thought to ask the sister’s daughter which one it was before she died last year. Now we’ll never know.

I have a family photo from 1895. That would be MY great grandfathers’ immediate parent generation.
We’re trying to figure out which of the boys was GGPs’ dad, but only one of the women looks exactly like me* – which doesn’t work because we still have the last name.

*Either; I’m very feminine looking or she’s very masculine looking. I’m going with the second one. 😀

I come from a Catholic upbringing, so there’s a disturbing amount of pictures of me and old men (priests). But they were good priests, so don’t worry!

      Uh-huh.
      The first stage is ‘denial’.

My favorite part is that the younger brother is in on the passive-aggressiveness.

  8. Ian says:

Man I never have that. I always get the photos where there are other kids having lots of fun with my family and I’m not in them… oh… that explains so much.

I recall transferring phone numbers from an old phone to a new one and wondering who the hell several entries were. I tried calling them but several were disconnected. One did answer but they had no idea who I was.

    Wonderful.
