Chapter: Comic
When the kids in my neighborhood were really small they liked to dress up in lots of different costumes. Gender was not part of the equation. There were little boys being princesses or wearing fairy wings and little girls with capes showing off their muscles. Then something happened to them when they started going to school. They learned a new set of rules and bullied the younger kids into falling in line. In a few years those younger kids will turn around and do the same thing to their siblings that are just being born.

that’s a sad truth
Don’t got NO pics of me in no Fairy Princess outfit when I was little! I didn’t even THINK about it until prison, and didn’t have a choice!
There was a “what would you do” episode about this very situation near Halloween time.
Of course, some little girls (like mine) have a predisposition towards fairy wings. So naturally, it was a Tinkerbell/Peter Pan duo for Halloween this year (bonus: my nephew wanted to be a pirate, so we had a Captain Hook too!)
Last year, my oldest niece (six years old) dressed as Captain America. The year before, it was the Playskool Spider-Man and Friends version of Spider-Girl. This year, she was a zombie. Her parents are raising her right.
This beautiful comic made me laugh and feel sad at the same time. I think you’re my new best friend.
Aww, thank you. 🙂
I know I’m late, but this link is too relevant not to share it:
