#309 – Scale

I have very vivid memories from childhood of thinking the moon was following me. Even if an adult tries to explain what’s happening it still follows me around. It was an amazing day when my son spontaneously announced that the moon was following him.

Well, they don’t have to feed it, it looks full.

  2. Yep, I did that too…I think everyone thought/thinks that during at least one point in their childhood.

My Dad’s wife enjoys telling a story about me saying “That big ball is following us” when I was a child. I found it dubious because I didn’t meet this woman until I was in first grade and was already a fan of (admittedly pretty basic) astronomy.

As a kid I was told about the Man in the Moon and spent many a trip in the car looking to see a man walking around on the moon. (this was more than a decade before July 1969). I always thought since I needed/wore glasses I couldn’t see him because he was so small and so far away that my eyesight was just too bad to see him. I was long grown before I actually saw the face people were talking about. When I told my mother this she laughed ’til she cried, then apologized for confusing me in the first place.
