#495 – Half

I cracked up recently when I noticed that a package of ramen noodles claimed the serving size was 1/2 of the package. I have been eating similar noodles since I was a kid and never saw anyone eat only half. Maybe others are serving it as an appetizer?

That’s so they can lie about the calories, sodium content, and so on. Many other products are like that. My favourite crackers have a serving size of 5 crackers. I seriously doubt most people eat 5 and stop.

I once saw a Ramen package prominently advertising “NEW: Low Sodium recipe!”. After the instructions on how to cook it, it said “For new low sodium recipe, add only half the flavor packet”.

I’m lazy so I simply heat a bowl of water then chuck a ramen block in. Except you need a pretty big bowl for the full block so now I chop it in half and pour ~half the packet.

I’m a single guy living alone so I can just leave it lying around without worry. It’ll surely be used within 2-3 days for the same reason.

I thought there was some kind of government definition as to what constituted a serving.

It’s like with chips where you get this massive bag of chips, but a serving size is like 15g or six full chips and even then the sodium content is enough to dehydrate a buffalo.

It’s quite common in the Western World: sell food in oversized “portions”. People eat the whole portion insted of 1/2 or 1/3 or worse, then have a “swollen stomach”. This starts very early in life, so they are trained to eat “too much”: untill the stomach says “too much” instead of when the bain alredy said “this was a nice meal”.
Eating “a quick meal” fools the brain, so you get the swolen stomach BEFORE you “hear your brains”.

Eating slowly will help hearing your body signal “this was a nice meal”, long before the stomach gets “too much, you really have to stop”

But your TRAINING says you should finish the packet”.

Normal spagetti package: 250 grams. ( Half pond?)
That’s plenty for 5 people, if eaten slowly and with veggies.

Greased with bolognaise” you an swallow the whole package or at least half of it, but is that “a good meal” ?
