Chapter: Comic
I remember collecting a bouquet of dandelion flowers on my way to school to give to my first grade teacher. I proudly showed them off to the other kids waiting around on the playground for the doors to open in the morning. It was going pretty good until an older kid piped up. “Those aren’t flowers, dandelions are weeds!” I dumped them in a shameful lump over by the fence and shuffled in to class with my head hung low.

Not that it helps you as a first grader, but while they may be considered weeds, Dandelions are most definately flowers. The people from whose yards you plucked them probably appreciated it.
Hey, a flower is a flower, be it from a weed or not; although I will say that some flowers are BETTER than others.
In a corn field, a rose is a weed.
Two definitions I’ve heard:
“A weed is any flower that isn’t growing where you want it to.”
“A weed is any plant the virtue of which has not yet been discovered.”
Your teacher would have loved them, or at the very least faked it.
A true city child, I always thought of them as baby Black-eyed Susans when I was a kid. I didn’t know they were never going to get any bigger.
I’ve always liked dandelions, personally. I’ve never had to deal with them killing my grass, to be sure, but there’s something about their happy little yellow faces just popping up all over the place that seems fun 🙂
Dandelions have many uses, like they can be turned into wine. I have a recipe for dandelion wine.
I know my heart melted anytime one of my students brought me a flower, especially dandelions, because it meant they took the time to think of me, and the only resource they had were the dandelions in the grass on the playground.
In regards to the comic, did Robert take flowers from some random lady’s funeral, or was it someone he knew o_O
Which ever you feel is more horrible!
It’s almost like “Cyanide and Happiness”!
The definition of “weed” is “any unwanted plant”, so technically, because you wanted them, they weren’t weeds!
In theory, this excuse would keep you from the chore of removing dandelions from your own lawn (as long as you wanted them), but in practice, you have to do it anyway.
Well, that’s a load of rubbish.
Loads of people want grass in their gardens, but noone seems to believe that it isn’t a weed.
I always thought a weed was a plant that spreads ridiculously quickly everywhere?
Grass is most definitely a weed in my vegetable beds, and had to be smothered, dug up, and thrown away.
Something that spreads ridiculously quickly everywhere is invasive. Invasive things are usually considered weeds because they are unwanted due to the way they disrupt the native flora and fauna.
Wow I didn’t know people bury Moths like that.
Of course!
My friend (*likes to pretend that she*) had a pet moth called Larry. She (*pretended that she*) forgot air holes in the box she (*didn’t*) keep it in. She (*pretended to have*) buried it, but I know she lied. She doesn’t know why there were about 50 odd holes in her garden, though.
Who cares if dandelions are weeds? They’re prettier than some flowers, and make nice fizzy drinks!
(*mmmm….. Dandelion and Burdock….*)
…Dandelions are anywhere NEAR as awesome as Venus Fly Traps, though.
Like all those Greeks at the University say, never call a fraternity a frat. It’s like calling your mother a moth.
That is an elaborate casket for such a tiny nocturnal insect.
