Setting your phone to vibrate is a good way to be alerted that someone is contacting you without disturbing others. But if you set your phone down on something large and hollow it can actually buzz louder than your ringtone would have. The best is when someone would set their phone down on a conference table at an important meeting. Everyone stops to look at that loud buzzing phone. You can pretend it’s not you when there’s a quiet ringtone chirping from your pocket.

Anything is better than when my Sister-in-law’s cell went off during a funeral. The ringtone was “Man In The Box.”
Seriously.
True and true. In fact, it’s the main reason my basic ringtone is Dethklok’s “Go Forth And Die.” Totally ensures I have to turn it down or off in those kinds of situations. You only forget to do that once.
I recently (a month and a day ago) did a Commercial Pilot License flight test.
I had set my phone alarms early, around 6AM, to prepare properly. The alarms went off alright, everything as fine.
Lo and behold, 3 hours after that, my phone started vibrating every five minutes. This happened four more times.
However, I was doing the ground test portion of the exam at the time, with the phone in my pocket, and the flight test examiner asking me questions about the performance of the plane, air law, the flight plan I made, all that good stuff. Until she asked if that was my phone that was vibrating, thereupon causing my face to go red and causing me to apologize profusely.
Speaking of funerals: my little brother’s had his go off during a procession in the cemetery. Ringtone: “Highway to Hell.” I got blamed for teaching him about rock’n’roll 🙁
