It’s funny to watch my kid be exposed to someone new and magically absorb a new behavior or phrase that he never had before. Sometimes he’ll say something and I’ll be shocked that he would speak to me that way but when I ask “What do those words mean?” the answer is always “I have no idea.”
Someday, my friend and I will be called in to the office of his son’s school principal, and asked why the boy has been overheard saying “Oh ****, ******, what are you doing?” and “You got pwnd, ******.” in class.
I kept my parents on their toes when I learned to talk. Never spoke a word for a long time, made them worry about it. Then, I just up and talked in clear, full sentences. Not too long after, I figured out reading at three years old. Ma said it made it easy when my little brother was born two years after me, he just started to copy whatever I did.
