#524 – Grip

Why? Why are you trying to crush my hand? I’m a cartoonist. I need this hand for other things. Ow. Stop it. Kid, let go or I’m calling your mom.

  1. This, not germophobia, is why I do fist-bumps at conventions. Only one hand-shaker in about 20 is a crusher, but I don’t like those odds at all.

Personally, I think the limp fish is worse than the crusher, and there are many of those. Or the guy who grabs your fingertips before you can get your whole hand in there, then looks at you funny ’cause he thinks you have a bad handshake.

Thanks for the link. It describes many types of handshakes, and suggests what may be wrong, but doesn’t get clearly into the etiquette of a handshake.

Baby, ok. Puppy, even better. Cats? No good.

An interesting video on the body language aspect of handshaking: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3zM23Hd7lo

Handshaking starts at halfway in the video. He does a solid job of explaining the impact on the recipient of your handshake approach. Also, clearly explains a proper handshake between equals. He doesn’t get into grip strength or styles, but I don’t suspect anyone who is a jerk when shaking hands will be changed by a youtube video.

    Noooooo kitty.
