Chapter: Comic
I had friends in grade school that got specific monetary rewards for each of their grades. Each report card was like another birthday full of gifts but they got to pick them out. It’s not something that my parents did but I’m now wondering if all I had to do was ask.

There were a few years where my siblings and I were rewarded for good grades. I recall my parents being quite the cheapskates though.
I seem to recall something of the sort, and tried it with my daughter. Somehow, coins didn’t quite cut it, though!
my parents paid me for A’s, not a cent for any other grade though. I also got 10$ every time I went to the dentist and didn’t have a cavity (once a year). Needless to say I got straight A’s and perfect teeth, bribery is an excellent motivator.
I gotta show this to my kids.
What, their report card? 😛
I made the unfortunate mistake of having good grades right from the start, so it was expected of me from there on out.
When I learned some of my friends made money for good grades, I was a bit upset, but I figure I got more stuff anyway, because my parents couldn’t say “well, you’re last report card wasn’t so great…” when I asked for stuff. AndI actually liked school, for the most part.
That really didn’t work on me. I was great at reading, art, science, and lunch. My math skills were on par with an orange peel, though. Couldn’t be bribed, because I played the long game with any money I had. I could eventually save up enough on my own to get things i wanted, and usually at the end of the fiscal sales quarters at the store’s discount racks.
I bet he got him a copy of his birth certificate for his birthday.
Well, it only took me three days, but I made it through the entire archive. You have a dedicated new fan! Also I was one of those kids like Darchangel. Having good grades from the start limited my opportunities for getting bribes for further good grades. I just got punished for bad grades. 🙁
