Chapter: Comic
I think “brown cow” and “black cow” are regional terms and may mean something different where you live. I do remember loving root beer floats when I was a kid. It wasn’t the only float around though. We went through a period of trying every soda possible. Root beer always came out the winner though. Green River soda was a close second for me.

7-Up and pineapple sherbet. You won’t be sorry.
It’s made with Pineapple juice.
I tried root beer & strawberry ice cream float. It was different, better than using lemon ice cream. There was no vanilla at all.
How now brown cow?
I thought a brown cow was a root-beer float made with chocolate ice cream — and that the one with vanilla ice cream is just called a root-beer float.
Over here, any form of ice cream + fizzy drink combo is a Spider.
I agree with McGehee that root beer and vanilla ice cream is just a root beer float. I thought the “cows” were frappes (what most of the US calls “milkshakes”, but in Massachusetts milkshakes don’t have ice cream in them).
Arix must be in Australia?
Living in Michigan gives me access to the Faygo soda Rock n’ Rye which is a shade of red. Making a float from it produced what is locally called a bloody cow and if you ever get the chance to try one don’t pass it up as they are awesome.
Yep, in Australia, soft drink + icecream = soda
Where I come from a brown cow is milk + Kahlua. Never heard a root beer float called anything but a root beer float.
In the late 50s there were A&W stands in the summer in Oklahoma.
Root beer and vanilla ice cream = a root beer float
Orange crush and vanilla ice cream = an orange float
Coke and vanilla ice cream = a coke float
All of it equaled heaven for a group little girls after a night of chasing fireflies and trying to play softball in the dark. Don’t remember anything about colorful cows.
Where I’m from, Grape soda + Vanilla ice cream = Purple Cow.
I thought a brown cow was root beer with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup. Take out the syrup and you’ve got yourself a root beer float. replace the root beer in a root beer float with Mountain Dew Voltage and you’ve got something delicious that lacks a name and will keep you up at night.
Chocolate ice cream & Mt. Dew.
YUM!
(the original Mt. Dew, not these new fangled flavours)
Orange juice (actual juice, not soda) + vanilla ice cream = orange freeze ^.^
Australian here (and too young to remember terms from decades past). I have NO idea about ANY of the terms being mentioned in the majority of comments (and the comic itself).
I do know that a soft drink of any kind (such as coke, lemonade, fanta) with ice cream is often called a “Spider”. Lemonade and ice cream, Coke and Ice Cream… I imagine there’s names for particular flavours, but that’s the limit of my personal knowledge.
Orange soda and chocolate ice cream is the zaniest I’ve gotten.
Guinness + Vanilla is pretty good too!
A black cow is root beer, vanilla ice cream, and some chocolate syrup.
It was made with pee.
You can’t beat Green River with vanilla or some fruit ice/ice cream/sherbet.
